Fraud Watch: Fake Online COVID-19 Map
posted on Friday, March 13, 2020 in Fraud
Safeguard Iowa Partnership has been made aware of a malicious website pretending to be the Johns Hopkins University COVID-19 global cases map.
Anyone searching the internet for COVID-19 information could unwittingly navigate to the malicious website.
Visiting the fake website infects the user with the AZORult trojan, an information-stealing program that can take a variety of sensitive data. It’s likely being spread via infected email attachments, malicious online advertisements and social engineering.
The correct web address for the Johns Hopkins University COVID-19 global cases map is https://coronavirus.jhu.edu/map.html.
ACTION RECOMMENDED: Only click hyperlinks and email attachments you know and trust. If it looks suspicious, it probably is.
