The C1st Youth Heifer Program gives 7th and 8th grade students the chance to raise cattle, manage finances, and gain real-world experience. With a five-year, zero-interest loan, participants learn responsibility, grow their skills, and have the opportunity to build a cattle herd of their own.
Program Highlights
- Up to three applicants will be selected to receive up to five bred heifers*
- Annual progress reports to track financial records, herd management decisions, and future goals
- Opportunity to own a small herd by the end of the program
- Valuable mentorship, community connections, and industry knowledge

The market value of the heifers will be established at the beginning of the program when the heifers are delivered, financed at zero percent interest, and repayable in five annual installments.
Who Can Apply?
Application & Eligibility Requirements:
- Students entering 7th or 8th grade in Fall 2025
- Must live and operate within the C1st field of membership
- Student responsibility for daily care and management decisions
- Parent/guardian consent and loan co-sign required
- Provide three written letters of recommendation
- Must provide proof of insurance, annual progress reports, and allow on-site inspection
- Prepare a projected cash flow detailing your first year's anticipated income and expenses
