Russell Volunteer Fire Department Fall Festival & Smoke-Off

Get ready for an exciting weekend of savory flavors and community fun on September 18–19, 2026, at the 15th Anniversary of the "BEST IN SMOKE" Fall Festival and Smoke-Off Competition in Russell, Iowa. As one of southern Iowa’s premier BBQ events, it draws pitmasters and families from across Iowa, Nebraska, and Missouri.

Enjoy competitive BBQ, a town parade at 3:30 PM, a freewill supper at the firehouse at 5:00 PM, and family-friendly fun on "Kids Row," complete with games, prizes, and bounce houses. Organized entirely by volunteer firefighters, all support helps keep this community tradition thriving. Bring your family, appetite, and community spirit!
